The CardioLADs · echocardiography
You don't read the echo.
You slice the heart.
CardiacWindow draws one beating heart from physiology and lets you cut it with a transducer: twelve transthoracic and ten transoesophageal views, colour, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler, M-mode, calipers, and a codex of every parameter from TAPSE to the continuity equation with its guideline source. Nothing here is a stored image.
- 22 views, TTE and TEE including transgastric
- 15 pathology presets plus a fully adjustable heart
- 77 codex entries, each with its guideline and URL
- 50 levels across seven tiers
Curriculum
Seven tiers, one heart
Each level shows a live view from the same model. Identify, locate, measure, assess and reason. Measurements are scored against the model's own truth with a tolerance, so a good technique is rewarded and a wrong plane is caught.
Codex
Every parameter, with its source
Definition, how to measure it, where, normal and abnormal values, pitfalls, and the guideline it came from. Entries marked verified carry numbers read from the cited document; entries marked descriptive deliberately state no cutoff until it has been verified.
About
CardiacWindow
CardiacWindow is a serious game for learning echocardiography, built by The CardioLADs alongside Depolarize (ECG and electrophysiology) and VADPath. One parametric heart model drives every view. Chamber dimensions, wall motion by segment, valve lesions, diastolic grade, pericardial fluid, RV load and IVC behaviour are state variables; the image you see is a slice through that state, rendered live with synthetic speckle, depth attenuation, colour Doppler and spectral traces. Because the model knows the truth, the game can score your calipers, your Doppler placement and your interpretation.
How to use it
Work through the curriculum from Windows to TEE, or open the Sandbox, choose a preset or build your own pathology, and scan freely. Toggle labels off to test yourself. Freeze, scroll the cine, drop calipers, place the M-line, sample Doppler. Instructor mode reveals the model truth for teaching sessions. The Codex is the reference; every entry links to the guideline it was drawn from.
Sources
Limitations
The images are synthetic. They teach geometry, orientation, timing, Doppler direction and measurement technique; they do not reproduce every artefact or the texture of real tissue, and they are not a substitute for supervised scanning. Values labelled descriptive have no cutoffs by design. Wall motion, valve lesions and pressures are simplified models tuned to reproduce guideline ranges, not patient data.
